‘I Want to Be Just Like Her’

Feb 12, 2026

Stephen Curry’s GOAT movie is one for the boys.

At an early-access screening in Dedham, Massachusetts, on Saturday, during the beginnings of yet another snowfall, a diverse mix of parents and children—many boys among them, some wearing Curry jerseys or Patriots apparel—filled the 285-capacity theater. They watched as Will Harris, a young goat, sought and won a roster spot with his hometown Thorns, only to have to enter into another battle for playing time. All the while, Will’s exposure to his longtime hero-turned-teammate Jett Fillmore—a 20-year veteran black leopard chasing her first Roarball title claw—opens his eyes to the dangers of hoisting mere mortals to idol status.

The next day, New England’s team played a stinker of a game in the Super Bowl, leaving GOAT as the the weekend’s redeeming sports-related event. The film puts a refreshing lens on basketball and boldly looks at the ugly side of professional sports. It also, in delicate strokes, addresses relatable human struggles.

My review for GOAT is filled with spoilers. If you plan to see the film, return here and click the button below to read the complete write-up.
